Activating Your GM Telematics Unit

Last updated: June 11, 2026

To enable Standard Fleet to connect to your GM vehicle, you may need to activate the built-in telematics unit through GM's OnStar system. This quick guide will walk you through the steps. No subscription or payment is required to their system!

Step 1: Press the Blue OnStar Button

Inside your vehicle, locate the blue OnStar button on the rear-view mirror. Press it once and wait for the prompts. If you’re not connected right away, press it a second time to try again.

Step 2: Ask for a Fleet Advisor

Once you're connected to an OnStar Advisor, say:
“Please connect me to a Fleet Advisor.”

This will ensure you're transferred to the right department for fleet activations.

Step 3: Request Unit Activation

When the Fleet Advisor answers, say:

“I am calling for activation of my unit.”

This lets them know you’re activating the telematics unit so your vehicle can connect to Standard Fleet.

Step 4: Decline Any Paid Subscriptions

If you're offered any subscription plans, simply decline.

You can say: “No, I do not want a paid subscription.” No payment is required to complete the activation.

Step 5: Let the Advisor Complete the Activation

The Fleet Advisor will place you on a brief hold while they activate your vehicle. This typically takes just a few minutes. In some cases, they may also ask to verify your ownership of the vehicle.

Step 6: Let us Know this has Been Completed

Let us know the Blue Button Key Press has been completed in the correct email thread, or send a new one to support@standardfleet.com with the subject line: GM Blue Button Confirmation - {VIN}

Once complete, your GM telematics unit will be activated and we can continue onboarding your vehicle.
